Behind the Beat is my first stage show. It’s me, navigating the world through the drums, an instrument I’ve played since I was three years old. Through the kit’s chaotic and tangential assembly, the different parts of the instrument take us on a journey exploring neurosis, inner critics, vulnerability and play – through storytelling, poetry, music and performance. The show came from a period of R&D working with renowned theatre maker Haley McGee. Studies with clown maestro Philippe Gaulier then fed into a new form and vision, and what you are coming to is a work in progress.
